Are bears in your neighbourhood?
Black bears need to fatten up for hibernation. When natural foods are in short supply, bears will seek out alternative food sources ... sometimes coming right to your neighbourhood.
Garbage, bird and pet foods left outdoors and ripe fruit are extremely attractive to a hungry bear.
Most problems with bears can be eliminated. Don't invite bears to your neighbourhood - do all you can to eliminate those things that attract bears. Safely store garbage until pick up day or take it to the dump. Fill bird feeders during winter months only. Pick ripe fruit off trees and the ground. Eliminate smells and remove grease and food residue from your barbecue.
In an immediate emergency call your local police or 911.
